Making Nettle Rope

My boyfriend took me on an adventure up the Law hill today to rummage around in the woods where he taught me loads of useful bush craft tips to help me construct my bender tent structures. Here I am documenting making rope...

Bashing out the fibers so it is easier to access the strong fiber in the centre of the nettle stem.

Taking the Pith; Snapping the stem to pull away exterior.

Opening up the stem to reveal the strong fiber used to make the rope.

Pulling the pith away.

Dry the fibers out for a bit, but not too long so that they dry out completely and then twist and pleat until you have rope

Toby and I at the end of my rope making lesson.
